Christine B is fabulous !! Not just for today, but every single time I go in there she’s always very caring. However, today I went in there with a broken foot asking if there’s a way I could get a month or two of my monthly groceries delivered as it was hard for me to carry these items to my apartment. She didn’t have anything available with their delivery driver, but instead offered to bring the groceries to me herself, what a true angel and a great person !! I’ve never been so blessed in my life thank you Christine. ?

It is a great place to get fresh veggies when you are struggling financially or falling on hard times. The staff is hit or miss. They didn't want to help me when I applied for financial help, which I thought they did if you are a client.

Christine told me they didn't have money to help me with my utility bill or know when they would be able to help when my power was cut off. That was hard to take. It made me feel even more ashamed of myself and my life because it's hard to beg for help anyway when you are already suffering. I felt really awful after they responded to me the way they did. It was very degrading and I felt humiliated. I actually have not felt comfortable coming back since that time.

I have found that all of the Cristian run charities in this area that I've asked for help on about four occasions all claim to be out of money. It's like they all say it the exact same way too. I actually found supportive and non judgemental case management and one time financial assistance with Shalom Austin. They were so nice to me and no matter how hard my life was going, they never judged me and always treated me with dignity, kindness, and respect. I didn't realize how badly these places were acting toward me until I had the experience with Shalom Austin. It honestly changed my life that they were so kind during some of my darkest times. This place was not like that. The last time I picked up food, I was having a migraine and pain flare and felt really awful. The lady in the pantry was so condescending. She was talking really loud and asked how I was, I said tired and she rudely says, "Join the club." This isn't how to treat people lady. At all.

I appreciate the grocery program they have and all of the veggies while I've been struggling this year in all aspects of my life. They have not been very kind or positive, but it's nice to have a place to go regularly for food. I think not all people enjoy serving the public who are poor or in crisis. It's hard to be on the receiving end because you already feel horrible about yourself and your life.

This place has been providing food and other necessities to individuals and families for more than 40 years.
On specific days of the week, needy families have an appointment to pickup the food and hygiene products tailored to them.
They are highly organized. It warms your heart to see the care that goes into running a very busy facility.
