Is unbelievable that there is NO association or state entity that protects the tenant. Annually we tenants pay thousands of dollars for our work to these complexes and WE ARE NOT PROTECTED unless we are seriously injured inside the unit or we hire a lawyer and in that case it would be better to pay the fine to cancel the contract and move out. My case, I have been in a complex for more than 5 years, I live on the second floor and I have already had, throughout that time, 3 tenants on the 3rd floor with exclusively nocturnal activities, who do not give me the opportunity to rest. , nor sleep all night. I have reported this situation many times to the complex office and they do absolutely nothing. This association DOES NOT INTERVENE in cases of noise because the case is returned to the complex WITHOUT THEM INTERVENING. However, one is paying for leading a bad life. I cannot rest or sleep inside the unit, I have had to adapt to the schedule of these people, this has caused problems in my health, in my work, in my sleeping hours. It is better to seek to pay a fine to cancel the contract than to go to this association. It's incredible how absolutely no one protects tenants' rights.
To all those who have problems in the complexes as tenants I RECOMMEND finding a way to pay to cancel the contract and MOVE. These people will never serve you, they will not defend your rights as tenants. Try to buy a property, you are spending thousands of dollars annually to live badly and in something that will never be yours

My apartment complex, which is a member of this useless organization, irresponsibly “lost” my security deposit during a management change that occurred around the same time I was transferred from one apartment to another in the same complex. The current management company is denying responsibility in returning me my funds and insist I go to the previous management company regarding this issue even tho that company is also denying responsibility as they no longer have any records or funds related to the complex!!!! After 2 weeks of back and forth emails where my complex only excuse for their lack of accountability was that they had “no records” of my previous lease, which I have a copy of and I have explained this, Matilde “Matti” Luna has refused to take my issue to their board for review even tho this was clearly stated as an option when filing my complaint!!!! This organization doesn’t care about the scummy doings of these apartments and are completely useless in protecting your rights as a tenant.

I met two Rodeo debutantes at the PTSD foundation. It was supposed to benefit veterans.
Well guess what? I am a veteran and being told it was private event to raise monies for the PTSD Foundation local Camp Hope.
I don't know whose fault it is but these ladies were very rude and disrespectful
If you want to walk around with T shirt that says we love Veterans, then at least be respectful to a veteran
I doubt I will ever do any businesses that were there but at least I can write a review.
Shameful.

I had made a complaint on August 5 because my apartment complex decided to make the entrance as an exit as well . It is always awkward to get out from the gate because we have to use the app to get in and out. If a car decides to come in and I’m trying to get out one of us have to wait for the other to move out of the way .And the gate opens like a door so if your car is too close to the gate it will hit it. I just called today to check on the status and some lady answer saying that I need to hire an attorney and that I have to call corporate? ! Then why are they here for ? I just want them to make the apartment complex to create ab exit or open the exit that they had before. The only reason the apartment complex won’t open the old exit it’s because they don’t want to spend money.
I’m trying to create a new complaint and it doesn’t allow me lol

I filed my complaint in May, but they didn’t take it seriously. They moved the hearing process to September and sent a decision agreeing with the apartment’s stance. They only forwarded messages from the apartment and never cared about my side. It’s so sad that in Houston, we don’t have an organization to protect tenants.

This place is a joke! I submitted a complaint because I have a roach infestation in my apartment, which the leading office haven’t been able to resolve. They never called me back. When I called them (a couple of weeks after submitting the complaint) they said “Oh, we contacted the company, Grey Star, which are the owners of The Grove at WILCREST, if they never contacted you back, there is nothing else we can do. We can’t force them to contact you.”So I asked the lady, is that the only thing you do? You do contact the owners and then if they don’t respond that’s all? And she replied “yes”. Don’t even bother to get in touch with the Houston Apartments Association. They won’t advocate for you at all. Another organization with no purpose.

I am a member of HAA. After joining last year, I have encountered multiple instances where no one picked up the phone to answer my questions as a member, when time was of essence. But, for some unknown reason I got my email inundated with spam from HAA. I got barraged by annoying spam from third parties HAA shared my contacts with during the declared national disaster where only my clients deserved my attention, not some sales people who think having no decent boundaries is the best way to "network". Unbelievable. I never subscribed to any spam lists. Two times during the year their accounting sent me invoices for the cources I already paid. I had to take time go back and search thru my bank account, call my bank and do an audit of where my payments went as I enrolled into classes and why it appeared to HAA accounting they weren't paid. HAA rep claimed my bank kicked back the charges. Twice no less! HAA was the only organization that did it to me. So when my bank reps audited the money trail they confirmed I did pay all bills when I enrolled in those classes, but NAA being the vendor did not collect payments from the system during the allotted period (negligent or irresponsible), so naturally the bank cancels transactions that do not get timely cleared. NAA accounting does not do their job, and then sends out invoices as if members did not pay in the first place, which causes confusion, waste of time and a sense of uncalled for guilt. That has been well researched, documented on my own invested time, yet HAA accounting did not even acknowledge their mismanagement of payments. Sloppy. So again, I wanted to enroll into a class HAA previously claimed I did not have pre-requisites for. A third party told me I did, so I tried to reach out to HAA education multiple times to verify it, enroll and get certified if possible. No one picked up the phone for several business days. Mind you, I renewed my dues in the meantime. I left a voicemail, was told to send an email, but no one bothered to get back with me. The person on the main line acted like she did not care there was any urgency. I realized they just did not want me there. I received a reply that I did qualify only the following week, and it was already late to enroll. Sad. The next class is half a year from now, so I have to take it in another state. I have requested for my dues to be refunded, since it has been a long case of not receiving timely service when needed. HAA desperately clutched to my $200 so bad, 3 reps argued with me for several days, apologized, gave me multiple excuses and runarounds on why no one was in the office providing service for the dues members pay, but did not offer anything to make things right. Just empty wishes and excuses. If I served my tenants this way, I'd have no tenants by now. I called again today multiple times... well, guess what? No one is in the office to help with enrollment during business hours. I guess they are busy planning their galas on our memberships' dime. Useless.

I called and spoke with Lauren who is head of development/classes. I regret not catching her last name. I needed a copy of my leasing 101 certificate from a class I paid for and completed with HAA, so I could apply for a job. She told me she’d email It to me by noon on 9/13/23 and I never received it. I’ve continued to call but No one EVER answers the phone during business hours. I’m very disappointed in the service at Houston Apartments Association. If you all are hiring or need help I’d be gladly to apply as I’ve been desperately searching & willing to work. I’ve literally called for the last week and pressed every phone entry to try and reach someone.
