I had to take a dog in to get neutered. With everything said and done... neutering, test for heart worm, all injections, getting chipped, and 1 month heat worm medication $108.00. You couldn't get that anywhere else on the Western Slope. The staff is so nice. They definitely love their animals.

Located on a 52 acre property just a mile north of Ridgway, Second Chance Humane Society promotes responsible pet parenting and has an animal resource center where they rehabilitate, spay/neuter, re-home, and nurture hundreds of homeless pets a year. Clean facility, dedicated and knowledgeable staff, and strong support from the local community.

We have had the best experience with Second Chance, we adopted our tripod Kitten Davey a couple months ago, and our journey with him and their clinic has been great. He had an amputation the day before thanksgiving, and every person involved was very thorough and helpful. I felt confident in being able to take care of him because of how well everything was explained, and his recovery ended up going very well. We love Davey and we love the whole team at Second Chance Humane Society. We intend to continue bringing both of our animals here for their veterinary needs.

I adopted my oh so precious chocolate lab, Mesa from Second Chance Humane Society when she was 10 months old. She was one of the great loves of my life. She was so smart, sweet, perfect. Everyone who met her on trails immediately said how "sweet" she was. I lost my Mesa to doggie heaven 2 years ago at the age of 14 1/2 years old. She will live in my heart forever. Thank you Second Chance for taking care of her in her time of need and giving me the chance of a lifetime in finding her.

Second Chance is amazing. We adopted our puppy from Second Chance and their customer service was amazing and our puppy is the sweetest little guy. The price was great. When we adopted our furbaby at 10 weeks, his vaccines were already up to date and he was neutered. It has been an amazing experience.

I fostered kittens and a young dog for these folks and you will not find any more caring about their rescues! Had lost my best friend
and was so lonely and sad. It was very good for me to do this during the isolated COVID times we live in. I answered the call for their need for fosters and found my perfect pup and his two pack members. All found homes, and we are both so happy! Give of yourself and have patience. They supply everything you need for your foster. This gives them room to answer needs of our area, and a chance to learn about the right fit for those who want to adopt! Good things happen to all involved!

I love this humane society, everyone I met is ready to help you and give support. I started out just volunteering but instantly fell in love with their cats. If you visit and some of the cats are unfriendly they most likely won’t be in a few days of their care! They do such a good job making even the craziest cats want a ton of cuddles. Though if you are thinking of getting an animal definitely go to second chance, and explore your options and you will probably find the animal of your dreams! My new cat Mowgly and I are flying home tomorrow! If you are looking for an animal consider this place as a strong contender.
