I'm a Disabled Veteran who fell victim to the long running Veterans Benefits Fraud scams operated by local attorney Jon R Disrud. When I reached out to Rep Bernal and his staff I was treated with respect and courtesy rather than bureaucratic indifference. Thanks to their effective and timely work the TX Veterans Commission (TVC) got involved and Disrud's wrongdoing was established. In violation of three federal laws he took money from dozens of Veterans for services which he was unqualified to provide and legally prohibited to even offer.
Rep Diego Bernal was the one official who stepped up to defend the Disabled Veterans and demand accountability. They weren't just cheated out of thousands of dollars of their disability income. On average Disrud's interference denied them access to medical care and other benefits for two years.
Diego Bernal helped put a stop to two decades of this disgrace. Ultimately, Disrud was forced to refund all the money to the Veteran cited in TVC's complaint.
That's a huge step in the right direction and much credit is due to Rep Bernal and his outstanding staff.

Rep. Bernal is actually works on legislation that has a positive effect for the people he represents. He doesn’t get caught up in the power dynamics of it all. He seems to be one of the few who genuinely cares about his constituents. Very proud that he is my rep.

I contacted your office recently for assistance in renewing my drivers license. My given name on my birth certificate was spelled different than on my drivers license of 50+ years. Tried correcting this with DPS to no avail! A representative from your office, Nathalian Avilias, contacted me. He said he would be glad to help me. In a week, a representative from DPS contacted me, told me how to solve this problem. Yesterday I was able to renew my license. Thanks, Nathanial for a job well done. Recommend Nathaniel be commended for his outstanding constituent service. He was polite, thorough, courteous and a credit to your office. A pleasure to work.
